CCH Volunteer Spotlight December 2016: Carol Jandreau

Volunteers enhance the care provided to patients at Campbell County Health in many different ways. This new feature will highlight one of our CCH volunteers and the important contributions they make to the organization and the community.

Carol Jandreau came to Gillette in 1973, recently retiring after 37 years as an Administrative Assistant, mostly at Belle Ayre mine. Carol’s organizational skills came in handy when she started volunteering at the Rockpile Museum, and took the museum outreach program to Pioneer Manor for monthly presentations for the residents.

According to Activity Director Marla Russell, Carol works hard behind the scenes before and after these activities, making sure the residents have a hands-on activity where they can learn something. Things like canning and making dolls are a big hit with the residents.

“It’s a blessing to have her here,” says Marla. “She so organized.”

When asked why Carol enjoys working with seniors so much, she talked about caring for her father as long as she could as he got older.

“He continued to see himself as a young person,” she said. “I want to reach the person I know is there inside every resident.”

Carol attended Hospice training last year and then learned how to maneuver wheelchairs so she could volunteer for special events at Pioneer Manor and later, The Legacy. She was stationed at Pioneer Manor during the move to The Legacy on November 2, organizing the volunteers who were there. She helped fix the residents’ hair for The Legacy Christmas party a few weeks ago, and has helped with holiday caroling this month.

“I’m doing things that are outside of anything I’ve done before,” said Carol. “That’s what makes it fun, and everyone is so appreciative at The Legacy, both staff and residents.”

When she’s not volunteering, Carol enjoys crafts, sewing, reading and hiking. She and her husband Jerry have two grown sons.

Carol embodies the spirit of volunteerism—giving her time for the opportunity to help others. Thank you Carol, for all that you do for CCH and this community.
