The Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse, under minimum supervision, obtains medical and surgical history, identifying individual patient needs, provides pre-op instructions and education, and orders appropriate pre-operative testing per anesthesia guidelines while adhering to all policies and procedures of the facility. The Registered Nurse is accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge in the pre-op and post-op areas. The Registered Nurse functions as a patient advocate utilizing the Patient's Bill of Rights. The Pre-op/Post-op Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes in accordance with the mission of the Center. He/she demonstrates professional growth and development by accepting responsibility and accountability for one's nursing practice. He/she is not required to take call or float to the surgery department at CCH.


  • Assesses patient status pre-operatively
  • Obtains medical and surgical history, identifying individual patient needs, provides pre-op instructions and education, and orders appropriate pre-operative testing per anesthesia guidelines.
  • Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.
  • Communicates appropriate information to surgeons and anesthesiologists concerning patient care.
  • Safely carries out physician's orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities
  • Initiates and participates in the patient's and family education. Assesses learning needs according to patient's level of understanding and readiness to learn.
  • Displays an understanding of each patient's cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological maturity in the assessments, treatment, and care.
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for the Center.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisions concerning Center based problems.
  • Participates in the orientation of nursing and ancillary staff as requested.
  • Completes pre-op phone calls for verbal assessment of the patient and reviews pre-op instructions and communicates any problems to the appropriate person.
  • Able to provide age appropriate care.


Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Licensure: Wyoming license (active and renewed on time).

Must have current Healthcare Provider CPR or Red Cross Professional Rescuer certification within 31 days of employment.

ACLS required (Within 6 months of employment and maintained throughout employment)

PALS certification preferred.

CPAN preferred

Experience: Two years Pre-op and/or Post-op experience, depending on area assigned, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center. Pain management, GI, and conscious sedation experience highly desirable.
