The EMT-A assesses, plans, implements and collaborates with other providers to ensure excellence in patient and family care during pre-hospital emergency care prior to and during transportation to a medical facility. The EMT-A may also assist with medical treatment of patients in the ECD under the direction of the MD and RN. Performs other duties as assigned. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES Maintains EMT-A certification and professional standards related to clinical practice, skill proficiency, staffing, and continuing education. Maintains up to date knowledge and records. Assumes leadership roles in coordination of other EMS staff duties/actions. Accurately performs complete population specific patient assessments, establishes care priorities, and renders appropriate care. Accurately documents assessments and treatments of patients in a timely manner. Provides pre-hospital patient information to the ECD staff. Provides service excellence to all customers. Drives vehicles safely. Gains access to patients using skills in extrication and rescue in accordance with level of training. Assures that ambulances and station are maintained, clean and stocked at all times. Provides minor vehicle and station maintenance to ensure all vehicle and equipment is maintained and utilized efficiently. Frequently assists ECD physicians and nurses in providing optimum patient care in the ECD in times of increased patient volume(s), and as available in accordance with call volume. Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and participates in cost containment and economical utilization of supplies and equipment. Contributes to hospital and EMS function by involvement in events, call coverage, educational inservices, and committees. Participates as preceptor of students and new personnel as needed Develops and maintains professional working relationships with inter- and intra-departmental personnel. Actively participates in LEAN process for the department and organization. Actively participates in Standards of Excellence and Mandatory Education programs. Maintains proficiency of skills at a high level. Complies with and adheres to the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and CCMH policies and procedures. Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent, some college preferred. Licensure: WY certification of EMT-A, National Registry preferred. Must have current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR within 60 days of employment. Prefer additional PEPP, PHTLS or similar certifications. Experience: Any prior healthcare field experience preferred, but not required. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Considerable speaking skills required. Able to communicate effectively and coherently with clear English speech, face to face and with a radio. Demonstrates precise hand/eye coordination for precise, delicate manipulations. Walking, inside and out. Ability to drive ambulance. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate needs and desires appropriately with coworkers and management. Essential Physical Requirements: Lift and carry greater than 75 lbs. Full range of body motion including: pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. May require static holding in any position with multiple physical activities performed simultaneous with aerobic endurance. Successfully complete functional job analysis.
