Medication Aides-Certified (MA-Cs)

Developed and taught by CCH, the MA-C training program is for Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) IIs to learn how to administer medications to non-acute (stable) adults. During the 80 hours of classroom and the 50 hours of online course, the MA-C students learn about drug classifications and drug side effects. Following the course, each CNA II must complete 40 hours of one-to-one clinical experience working with an experienced medication nurse in a Long Term care facility. Afterward, they student is tested by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing (WBSN) using the MA-C exam from the national council of state boards of nursing.

A CNA is required to work 1500 hours prior to training as a CNA II; however, there is no specific amount of time a nurse aide must be a CNA II prior to enrolling in the MA-C training. Each MA-C candidate must have their employment verified by their employer. He or she must be able to attend both the face to face training in Gillette and complete the 10 hours of online training each week. At this time the employer should be providing care for stable adult patients and must agree to provide a medication nurse preceptor for the 40 hours of clinical experience.
