Ryan Schrock earns Neurologic Clinical Specialist

  • Posted On:

GILLETTE, WY – Ryan Schrock, DPT, CSCS, Campbell County Health Rehabilitation Services, has received a Neurological Clinical Specialist (NCS) Certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) who operates under the governance of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Ryan is the only physical therapist in Wyoming who has this certification and has been with CCH for eight years.

Ryan sees patients at Rehabilitation Services in the Stocktrail Building, 508 Stocktrail Avenue, upper level, and at Short Term Rehab (formerly Transitional Care Unit) at Pioneer Manor, 900 W. Eighth Street. In addition to Certification by the ABPTS, Ryan is a National Strength and Conditioning Association-Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS). He practices in arenas including inpatient/outpatient neurology, orthopedics, and wound care.

“I have always had a love of partnering with neurologic patients in improving their functional status. Neurology in itself offers many challenges, and is a dynamic field within medicine regarding the amount of new evidence accrued daily that I have the opportunity to put into practice,” says Ryan. “The pursuit of NCS certification opened an avenue to continue to learn and provide optimal care, and provide a rehabilitation service that is largely overlooked in Northeastern Wyoming.”

Neurologic diagnoses that Ryan will be able to treat include:

  • Balance issues, dizziness and vertigo
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Post-concussion syndrome
  • Spinal cord or traumatic brain injury
  • Stroke, among others

The specialist certification program was established to provide formal recognition for physical therapists with advanced clinical knowledge, experience, and skills in a special area of practice and to assist consumers and the health care community in identifying these physical therapists. Certification is achieved through successful completion of a standardized online application and examination process.

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a national professional organization representing more than 80,000 members throughout the United States, established the specialist certification program in 1978. Specialization is the process by which a physical therapist builds on a broad base of professional education and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice. As of June 2015, ABPTS has certified 1,729 neurology specialists. Learn more about the program at www.abpts.org.
