CCH Introduces Camp Med for eleven and twelve year olds

GILLETTE, WY – Campbell County Health (CCH) is offering a new one-day camp—dubbed Camp Med—to introduce 11 and 12 year olds to medical occupations.

The program will be held on Monday, August 7 from 9 am-5 pm at Campbell County Memorial Hospital (CCMH). Camp Med participants will have experiences in surgery, radiology, laboratory and nursing, as well as complete Friends and Family CPR. This new program came from an idea submitted by CCH Laboratory Director Lynn Todd and was modeled after a successful program at Star Valley Medical Center in Afton, Wyo.

“I remember attending something called Medical Explorers at the old hospital in Gillette when I was in the fifth grade,” said Lynn. “After that experience I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. There is such a shortage of all kinds of healthcare workers both now and in the future. If we can show kids how cool these professions are when they are younger, maybe we can interest them in a future career.”

Camp Med is free for participants; however, space is limited. Applications are available at the Information Desk in the main lobby of CCMH, or online at www.cchwyo.org/campmed. Applications must be returned to CCH Volunteer Services on Friday, July 28 by 5 pm.
