What can I expect during my visit to the Emergency Department?
The CCMH Emergency Department is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week
by physicians and a compassionate medical staff who all specialize in
emergency medicine. Services like x-ray and laboratory, surgical teams
and specialists are all nearby and available at the moment you need them.
You will notice you will be treated in private exam rooms that are supported
by innovative technology and qualified, caring, safety focused staff.

What is the process in the ECD?
The ECD process consists of:
- Discharge - either home or another facility
- Admission to the hospital
- Follow-Up Care
Emergency Care Department Visiting, Cell Phone Use and Safety
The Emergency Department's primary goal is to take care of ill and
injured patients. To help the staff do this in a safe environment for
you and them please refrain from using cell phones while you are being
seen by a doctor, nurse, or technician; this includes visitors in the
exam room. Photography of any form is prohibited;
this includes cell phones. Each exam room does have a land-line phone available.
One visitor at a time is allowed in the exam room. Children and dependents may have two parents/guardians.
CCMH ED staff will evaluate individual visitor needs in critical situations.
Weapons are not allowed on the CCMH campus. You may be asked to surrender your weapon to security.
Triage is the act of assessing a patient's medical condition to ensure that
patients with the greatest medical need are treated first. In other words
you may see patients called back for treatment that arrived after you.
Triage, performed by one of our experienced registered nurses includes:
- Review of medical history
- Assessment of current symptoms
- Evaluation of vital signs - body temperature, blood pressure and pulse
Following triage is
Registration. This step is to gather patient information and to obtain consent to be
seen and treated by an ECD physician. During your visit we will ask for
photo ID, health insurance information and update any other information.
If you were involved in an auto accident or work-related accident, you
should state this as it may affect your billing.
