The October Department Discovery shines a light on Campbell County Health’s Nutrition Services.

If you haven’t enjoyed a meal at the Cafeterias or a cup of Joe at the Coffee Shoppes at CCMH or Pioneer Manor, we welcome you to join us. And, trust us, the food Nutrition Services serves here isn’t your typical “hospital” food—they enjoy making fresh, wholesome food made from scratch for everyone to enjoy. For example, staff often enjoys meals that include apple stuffed chicken with twice-baked potatoes and Scandinavian mixed vegetables, pork chops with acorn squash, stuffing and gravy, or honey pecan salmon with long-grain wild rice and Brussels Sprouts. As an added bonus, the Coffee Shoppe serves Starbucks beverages and a host of other goodies—plus the baristas are some of the best you’ll find in northeastern Wyoming, and beyond.

With nearly 50 employees—including registered dietitians, certified dietary managers, as well as chefs, cooks and servers—Nutrition Services provides high-quality nutritional care to patients, residents and their families, as well as visitors. Services this bustling department provides include:

  • Cafeteria, patient and resident food service at CCMH and Pioneer Manor, as well as providing off-site service to select CCH locations
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy services for select departments
  • Nutritional consultations, including counseling for doctor-ordered diets and preventative nutrition

As you see above, this department isn’t simply food service. They recently hired Jamie Marchetti, a Clinical Dietitian to join Heidi Gillette, Clinical Nutrition Supervisor at Pioneer Manor, and Karen Polson, Clinical Nutrition Supervisor. This team helps to provide nutrition counseling for individuals, and much more in depth one-on-one nutrition care to patients at Dialysis, Heptner Cancer Center, Maternal Child and Pioneer Manor, among others. Their areas of expertise include allergies and food intolerances; Bariatric surgery; gastrointestinal disorders; specialty nutrition for cancer, kidney disease and liver disease; sports nutrition; weight management; and more.

“We can accommodate everyone—to people with food allergies, as well as those who need gluten free meals,” says Lisa Miller, Nutrition Services Director. "We also have the capability to produce flavorful and therapeutic food—something that does not tend to be synonymous.”

Lisa speaks highly of her staff—the teamwork that is exhibited in the kitchens and beyond every day is second to none, she says. “It is no secret the commitment and compassion that the staff shows to all of our employees, patients, residents and visitors. We strive to satisfy as many food requests that we can.”

And, the team at Pioneer Manor long term care facility is working hard to improve the residents experience with Nutrition Services. “In long term care, Nutrition Services employees are excited about our Suzy Q carts project,” says Lisa. “This cart has given us an opportunity to interact with the residents at a more personal level. Staff move carts through the dining rooms for residents to select what they would like to eat and the quantity they want. This allows the residents to see and smell food before selecting, as well as engage with staff more. Everyone seems to love it.”
