Thanks for working here Thursday: Melissa Gorsuch, RN, CCMG Diabetes Education

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Allow me to introduce Melissa Gorsuch, RN, the Diabetes Educator for the Campbell County Medical Group Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Clinic. If you didn’t know, CCMG’s Diabetes Education program gives patients the knowledge and skills needed to successfully self-manage diabetes and prevent complications. CCMG’s Endocrinologist, Dr. Thomas Repas, asks all his new patients with diabetes to see the diabetes educators prior to their first appointment with him—he wants his patients to have the advantage of diabetes education within the last year.

Melissa received her degree from South Dakota State University and she has been with CCH for nearly eight years. Melissa’s mom was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and also worked in a clinic, so she spent most of her childhood surrounded by health care providers. However, her passion for the profession reignited when her father had Leukemia.

Melissa names our own Bette Smith as her health care hero. “Not only did she have a wealth of knowledge and experience as a nurse, she was also a great manager,” says Melissa. “She set high standards and expectations for all of her staff and made sure everyone met—no surpassed—those expectations. She made sure that any patient who came through those doors at the ICU received the best care possible. You could always count on her support and backing.”

When Melissa is not working, she enjoys spending as much time as possible with her husband and children—she says she’s usually running the kids around to sporting events or concerts, but her and her husband also get to enjoy the occasional motorcycle ride or trip.

We asked Melissa what makes her feel the most pride in her work at CCH, as well as what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“The best part of my job is watching people’s health improve and seeing them feel better, whether it was in a serious situation or gradually over time. I really love the people that I work with—both colleagues and patients.

Excellence every day means that I come to work every day with the intention to do my very best for every patient I come in contact with.”

The diabetes education program is a wonderful addition to our community, and organization, Melissa. We’re proud to have you on our team.
