Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family
and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they
do for this organization.
Say hello to
Roy T. Buchanan, NSCA, CSCS, RSCC, EP-C, who is the Excel Coordinator at Campbell County Health
Rehabilitation Services. For those who don’t know, the
Excel Athletic Performance Program is tailored to help young athletes between the ages of 11 and 17 improve
their potential for speed, agility and power for their sport of choice.
“Roy’s loyalty and hard work has made our Excel program a well-known
place for our young athletes to become better at their sport,” says
Brenda Robertson, ACSM CPT, FMS, CI-FFT, who is the Functional Health Supervisor at CCH
Rehabilitation Services.
Roy has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from
Black Hills State University, and is currently working on his master’s degree. He came to CCH
after he graduated, six years ago. His inspiration to work in health care
can be related to a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “It is health that
is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.” Roy believes
that an individual’s health is the single most important aspect
of their life. “To me, it only made sense to direct my career toward
health and wellness,” he said.
Roy says his proudest moments working at CCH are when he gets to see the
“light bulbs turn on in the minds of my young athletes. These switches
may not get turned on with every single individual I have the pleasure
to work with. However, when big ideas regarding physical culture begin
to click and resonate within my most committed young developing athletes,
I can’t help but go home at night proud,” he says.
Outside of work and general home life, Roy says that he lets the seasons
tell him what to do. “In the spring and summer, I enjoy hiking,
backpacking, kayaking, and fishing. As fall approaches, my mind is largely
consumed by bow hunting. And during the winter season, I pull out the
snowboard and snowshoes and play in the snow.” We asked Roy what
he likes most about working for CCH and what excellence every day means
to him. Check out his response:
What I like about working for Rehabilitation Services is teamwork and our
ability to come together for the betterment of our patients/clients. We
work well together and have a wide variety of specialties that benefit
our community.
I think there are many good qualities and traits that make up the umbrella
concept of Excellence Every Day. But at its core, its simplest state,
I think back to a teaching moment from my late father when I was a young
kiddo: ‘Show up and do your best.’ The phrase is simple. Simple
enough that we can ask ourselves at the end of every single day: ‘Did
I show up? Did I do my best?’ If you can say yes to these two questions
at the end of every appointment or project, then you are well contributing
to the idea of Excellence Every Day. ‘Show up and do your best.’
It’s a great start.”
Thank you Roy for always showing up, and doing your best. We’re fortunate
to have you on our team.
