Are you at risk for type 2 diabetes? Take this test to find out

An estimated 86 million American adults have prediabetes, which means they have blood glucose (sugar) that’s higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

There are no clear symptoms of prediabetes. You can have it and not know it. Prediabetes puts you at a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes soon, or down the road. It also means that you are more likely to get heart disease or even have a stroke. The good news: prediabetes is reversible. Knowing your risk is the first step to reversing it.

On March 28, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) encourages all adults take the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Test during ADA Alert Day®. This free, anonymous test can help you find out in 60 seconds if you’re at risk for type 2 diabetes.

Take the test at: http://diabetes.org/RiskTest

Or, download a paper version of the test here.

Melissa Gorsuch, RN, CCMG Diabetes EducatorIf the test determines that you are at risk, Campbell County Health encourages you to see your health care provider. If you already have diabetes, and you need help managing it, your doctor can give you a referral to Campbell County Medical Group’s Diabetes Education program with Melissa Gorsuch, RN—you may also refer yourself.

“You are the most important member of your health care team,” says Melissa. “You are the person who manages your diabetes every day.”

CCH's Diabetes Education program is nationally recognized by the American Diabetes Association. The program gives patients the knowledge and skills needed to successfully self-manage diabetes and prevent complications. CCMG’s Endocrinologist, Dr. Thomas Repas, asks all his new patients with diabetes to see the diabetes educators prior to their first appointment with him—he wants his patients to have the advantage of diabetes education within the last year. To schedule an appointment with Melissa, please call 307.688.3615 or visit www.cchwyo.org/diabetes.
