Also referred to as Registration, the Patient Access department is at the front lines for patients coming to the hospital, as this is where important demographic information is collected.

For those who don’t know, admissions clerks are usually the first point of contact for patients. These clerks—more than 20 in all—wear several hats for CCMH. They greet patients and their families when they arrive at the hospital, lead patients through the registration process, pre-register patients for procedures, ask questions to make sure all the patient information is accurate (including insurance plan details), and make sure to enter all of it accurately into the facilities online medical record system. They also print out and create ID bracelets and help patients find where they need to go—often helping take the patient to their next location.

CCH believes that efficient registration is important, as it ensures the smooth flow of patients through the healthcare system. What’s more, accurate intake means properly processed paperwork, which ensures prompt payments from insurance companies.

According to Shonna Jones, CCMH Pre-Admissions Coordinator, Patient Access is really looking forward to the Campbell County Medical Group Clinics going live on MEDITECH, the electronic medical record system for the majority of CCH’s entities. When this is complete, patients will see:

  • an easier to read patient bill
  • a simpler registration process, which means patients won’t have to register multiple times in multiple places
  • a better picture of your total care because providers in the hospital and all of our clinics will have easy access to the information they need to take care of you in one location

Plus, the My Health Home online medical record will be improving, and will have information on both CCMH and the Clinics. Patients will be able to securely view future appointments, access discharge summaries, see their visit history, update personal information, review lab and radiology results (among others), access online bill pay, and request prescription renewals from any device with internet access.

According to Shonna, the best things about working in Patient Access is the people! “The amount of training that goes into this position shows with each and every employee. Our department prides ourselves on teamwork. This team can pull together in a moment’s notice, whether it is for a personal or work related matter,” she says.

A big round of applause to the CCMH Patient Access Team! Thanks for helping to keep our patients safe, happy and healthy.
