Medical Career Kick Start Program

Are you a high school student with dreams of entering the medical profession? Check out Campbell County Health's Kick Start Program to learn medical skills while enrolled in high school.

Students must see their guidance counselor for more information on how to apply.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Basic

Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) are responsible for assisting patients with basic care, performing duties like observing and reporting unusual patient responses, helping with admissions, discharges and transfers, and providing accurate documentation.

CNAs often work in doctor offices, hospitals, nursing homes, home care services, etc.; there are additional CNA certifications that can be obtained.

Costs: Class-$475, Books-$50 (est.), Scrubs (two sets)

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)

Must be 16 years old by the end of the class.

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) class covers first aid, CPR, basic trauma and medical care along with pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions for emergencies. Successful completion of this course makes the student eligible to obtain state certification as an EMR and be prepared to pass the NREMT registry for the EMR certification.

Many small Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies or volunteer agencies require this for their drivers, as the EMR cannot attend to a patient alone in an ambulance, but can assist in care while on scene with an EMT or higher.

EMRs often work as safety and rescue personnel in the coal, oil and gas industries.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic

Must be 18 years old by the end of the class.

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic is an entry-level position with Emergency Medical Services (EMS). EMTs provide basic life support for patients, perform care assessments and clean and restock ambulances.

EMTs often work with ambulance services, safety and rescue personnel; there are additional certifications and licenses that can be obtained; EMT course are entry into Paramedic professions.

Cost: Uniform (white polo, navy or black pants, closed-toed black shoes)

Phlebotomy

A phlebotomist performs blood draws and collection for inpatients and outpatients, and coordinates result handling. Phlebotomy is a great starting point for most healthcare professions including EMR, EMT, RN, LPN, Radiology Technician, etc.

Costs: Scrubs (tops only required)

Note: There is no state certification for Phlebotomy in Wyoming. This program gives entry-level skills for a basic phlebotomy job.
