Name: Samantha (Sam) Brett Burton
Licensing Info: Wyoming Licensed Registered Dietitian
Amount of time working for CCH: I have been working for CCH for about two years now (2016).
Time working as a Provider (doctor, therapist, counselor, DPT, APRN, PA-C,
health coach): I have been working as a health coach/specialist at Wellness officially
since February and previously as an intern.
Credentials and/or specializations:
I have a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and am half
way done with my master’s degree in nutrition and health promotion.
I am also a registered dietitian nutritionist and licensed dietitian for
the state of Wyoming.
Why are you working in your chosen specialty?
I am working in wellness because I think there are numerous pieces that
contribute to the health picture we all strive for and recognizing that
health is a constant process and journey that needs support and adjusting
is appealing to me.
Why is being a provider (doctor, therapist, counselor, DPT, APRN, PA-C,
health coach) important to you?
Being a health advocate is important to me because seeing people achieve
goals and put in effort towards a desired outcome is an awesome thing
to be a part of. I have a passion for wellness and in particular nutrition;
I think so many issues stem from a simple lack of education and so making
people aware and opening their eyes to simple changes is an amazing feeling.
Why did you choose to work for CCH?
I love working for CCH because I think that as an organization we place
emphasis on the patients and their needs. I know and have met a lot of
amazing people through this organization and it feels good to be a part
of something where we all work together towards a common outcome: happy
What has made you feel the most pride in your work at CCH?
I feel pride on a small scale while helping clients every day. We work
together to brainstorm and make small lifestyle changes that bring them
joy and a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.
Who is your health care hero and why?
This question is tough. I have a lot of healthcare heroes. As an intern
I worked in many different facets of CCH while working to become a registered
dietitian. I love the food service manager at CCH, Mrs.
Lisa Miller, for the tremendous load she bears and how well she always handles herself.
She is a true go-getter and is always placing emphasis on the patients/residents
and ensuring their dining experience is an awesome one both for CCH and
I also would consider Mrs.
Karen Polson a healthcare hero for being the most knowledgeable registered dietitian
(RD) I have ever encountered and for the way she has dedicated herself
to all her patients across every floor of Campbell County Memorial Hospital
(CCMH): dialysis, Maternal Child, ICU and her residents at The Legacy.
She is truly a wealth of knowledge and beyond centered around her patients
and their care. There is not another RD like her in the field I am sure of it.
Lastly, I would have to mention Mrs.
Tanya Allee as a healthcare hero as well. As the previous wellness clinic supervisor,
she created this branch of CCH from the ground up and is now the new patient
experience advocate. She has made such an impact on the community with
her innovative ideas and desire to always go the extra mile and push for
more when it comes to patient care. She is an advocate for preventative
measures and programs in our community with the CCH-Wellness branch but
also has an amazing way with people as evidenced by her now position in
ensuring patients have a wonderful experience with CCH. All of these ladies
work in different ways to better CCH and I would consider them all heroes
in healthcare at CCH as a whole.
What advice do you give someone who is looking for a new provider?
My advice would always be to make sure your provided is centered on you
and treats you like the only patient in their agenda. You have to be your
best advocate and so finding a provider that feels the same way about
your care is key. They should put you at ease and make your care as seamless
as possible, truly listening to your concerns and questions. That is who
you want on your team.
What do you do for fun?
Well for fun I am a horticulture freak. I am the local master gardener’s
vice president so I love to volunteer in our community and share my love
for fruits and veggies and how to grow them with kids and adults alike.
I love being in the sunshine in numerous forms whether that’s gardening,
hiking, camping, playing numerous sports, fishing, running, or biking.
I love to TRAVEL, try new foods, cook new foods, play games, play sports,
spend quality time with new and old friends and visit family back home
