Brittney Russell, Health Coach

About Brittney

As a health coach at Campbell County Health Wellness Services, Brittney Russell said she enjoys guiding people to make healthy lifestyle changes and helping them realize they can reach their health goals. For the past four years, Brittney has been meeting with clients one-on-one to set their goals and identify ways to accomplish them.

"I work with different people every day," Brittney said. "I like that I get to be a part of helping them meeting their goals. I also enjoy getting to know the people because I work with them one-on-one."

When clients first meet with Brittney, she usually goes over recent blood work results with them and discusses their overall health. Together, Brittney and her client identify some areas that need improvement and create goals that can help the client meet his or her wellness targets.

"I work with people on behavior changes," Brittney said. "I help guide them in the direction of making some changes and helping to enhance their confidence to make those changes."

As part of her training, Brittney learned about motivational interviewing which she said has helped her understand how to work closely with people and encourage them to make positive changes in their lives. Meeting with clients on a regular basis anywhere from once a week to once a month to discuss their progress, Brittney gives clients ways to tweak their lifestyle to improve their health long term.

"Being more specific helps a lot because it can be overwhelming figuring out where to start," Brittney said. "It's incredible to see the changes and progress people can make."

Whether it's choosing a side salad instead of French fries or encouraging people to fit in an activity every day, Brittney provides simple ways people can slowly start to make changes in their health habits.

Name: Brittney Russell

Amount of time working for CCH: 2010

Time working as a Provider (doctor, therapist, counselor, DPT, APRN, PA-C, health coach): 7 years Health Coaching (since 2010)

Credentials and/or specializations: Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science – University of Mary – Bismarck, ND

Why are you working in your chosen specialty? I have a passion for health and being healthy. I always played sports growing up and live an active lifestyle. The experience I’ve had through internships and now Health Coaching and working with people opens up a completely new perspective and desire to want to help people. Every day is different which makes this type of work very exciting.

Why is being a provider (doctor, therapist, counselor, DPT, APRN, PA-C, health coach) important to you? As a Health Coach I’ve been able to see how important prevention is and addressing concerns in our health and not being afraid to ask questions about it. There are so many ways to be proactive with health that we have control over, especially for quality of life.

Why did you choose to work for CCH? CCH became an opportunity for me to expand my knowledge on health and grow in my experience. I have been able to work in a lot of different settings which has helped to have a better perspective and understanding with Health Coaching and working with different people one on one.

What has made you feel the most pride in your work at CCH? I’ve truly enjoyed being able to see the success people can have in improving any aspect of their health and making changes in their life that is so rewarding to them! It is very empowering and to have that feeling that I was able to help/support the process and seeing the change.

What advice do you give someone who is looking for a new provider? Find someone that you are comfortable with and takes the time to listen. It doesn’t ever hurt to have a second opinion and finding that provider that is more specialized in what you are looking for. Ask others as well. I have found this to be very helpful in hearing feedback from others.

What do you do for fun? Running and committing to races is my motivator and challenge all at the same time, and it gives me an excuse to travel at times and see other places. I enjoy a lot of outdoor activities like hunting, camping, and fishing. I’m also a big sports fan! Watching NFL and college basketball are always things I make time for too. Family is everything. I spend time with them as much as I can and more than anything, I love being a mom and spending time with my daughter. She keeps everything fun
