Education info: Master’s degree in professional counseling, Grand Canyon University Phoenix Arizona and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.

Why are you working as a provider/counselor?: To help others and to assist with the challenges/stressors of daily living.

Why is being a provider/counselor important to you?: It is important to me because it gives me great joy when I see children, adults and families navigate their stressful life situations. Then successfully return to their normal psychological functioning, while still following their family system of beliefs and values.

What patients do you like working with?: I enjoy working with both children and adults from diverse cultures with mental health issues and co-occurring disorders, as well as adults with substance abuse.

What was your path to your specialty?: My path to my specialty began when I worked with children in the classroom as a teacher. The children’s behavioral issues in the classroom triggered the desire to want to help them more as a counselor with their mental well-being by helping them live successful lives.

Why did you choose to work for CCH?: I chose to work at CCH because of the great awesome previous experience I had when I worked at the Early Childhood Center.

What has made you feel the most pride in your work at CCH?: I am proud of my employer; I bring unique experiences to work every day. I am given the opportunity to participate and give feedback while enjoying the smiles of my clients and colleagues while embracing the CCH mission.

What is your approach or philosophy on patient care/counseling?: Every client is unique, find out how they feel in their situation. Meet them at where they are at, and make them feel better by actively listening and letting them speak freely about their care preferences in a safe environment.

Who is your health care hero and why?: I have many health care heroes’ some of them include Angela Brown the Director of Residential Services at Central Wyoming Counseling Center. She was always calm, empathetic and compassionate while working with the clients. She taught me “Every client is like a seed we have to be patient as we take care of them and nurture them and do not forget to give them room and time to grow.”

Noamie Niemitalo, she always encouraged all of her staff members to pursue their education. She saw the great passion I had when I worked with children and when I informed her, I always wanted to be a play therapist she told me “Go for it Jane.”

Timothy Luedtke, I shadowed him while I did my internship. He was my great mentor, and taught me how to work with clients having substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. He always made IOP groups “fun.”

My current clinical supervisor Bill Heineke who has a great wealth of knowledge we both learn from each other.

Last but not the least; my mom who has always worked in the medical profession, other professionals in the medical field and the clients I work with for I learn from them as well.

If you had one piece of advice for someone in need of a provider/counselor, what would it be?:

What do you do for fun?: I enjoy spending time with family and my son who is in the military that I don’t get to see often enough. I like inspirational books and movies, traveling the U.S. and around the world.
