New Plant Ops VP Settles Into Gillette and CCMH

Where are the trees and water?

That was the question in Carl Sorenson’s mind as he and his wife Cristi drove out for his interview from Northfield, MN. Northfield is located in the southwest part of the state, about 30 miles south from Minneapolis.

The new Vice President of Facilities has more than 20 years of experience in facilities operations, project management and the environment of care. In his last position in Wyoming, MN, Carl oversaw Power Plant, Engineering, Environmental Services/Linen, Bio-Med, Environment of Care and Security with more than 70 employees, covering 80 acres and eight off site clinics.

Carl’s particular area of expertise is in survey readiness, with two perfect Joint Commission Surveys on his resume. He also has experience with Studer principles, as his former hospital has been a Studer partner for several years.

Carl stresses the importance of teamwork in achieving positive results.

“You’re only as strong as the people you surround yourself with,” said Carl. “I want to understand the skills and expectations and get up to speed.”

Like many people new to CCMH, Carl is impressed with the welcome he’s received from everyone he meets.

“It’s good to be here and settling in”, he said. “I plan to wander around the hospital getting feedback from everyone. But with all the projects going on here, the challenge will be finding the time.”

Carl’s wife and sons Dillon and Dustin made the move with him to Wyoming. Dustin is 16, and plans to try out for the Camels football team. Dillon,19, plans to move out later this fall. The Sorenson’s daughter, Cassie is running the family’s 160-acre farm in Minnesota, where Carl’s parents live.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to elevate the Facilities department,” said Carl. “I want to give people the opportunity to learn and grow.”
