Accidental injury is the number one cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States. Also, each year one out of every four children needs medical attention for an accidental injury.

Safe Kids Campbell County provides our community with free car seat checks by appointment, safety seat events, bike rodeos and much more to help educate our children. Replacement car seats are available for a $30 contribution.

Campbell County Health Emergency Medical Services helps organize the Safe Kids Campbell County program by paying the wages for event staff CCH and providing insurance for the van and trailer. CCH does not purchase car seats or bike helmets for the program. Grant funding used to cover these costs; however, those funds are no longer available. Donations help the Safe Kids Campbell County program purchase car seats and bike helmets for community members in need.

Car Seat Checks

Every year, thousands of children are tragically injured or killed in vehicle crashes. It is the leading cause of death for children ages one to 13. A properly installed car seat or child restraint can help prevent a tragedy. Campbell County Health's Emergency Medical Services staff perform free car seat checks through Safe Kids Campbell County.

Safe Kids Events

At the Child Safety Seat Check, Child Passenger Safety Technician instructors will perform inspections as well as train parents and caregivers to install and adjust their car seats properly. Participants are asked to bring the child, their current car seat, and the vehicle that they normally travel in for the check. Inspection time is around 30 minutes.
