Dr. Helen Kuehlman joins the CCMG Walk-In Clinic

Campbell County Medical Group Walk-in Clinic's newest provider became a doctor at age 40 after a career as a CPA at several large accounting firms in the Midwest.

Helen Kuehlman, DO, attended medical school at Midwestern University, Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed a residency in family practice at St. James Olympia Fields in the suburbs of Chicago and comes to CCH from Queen City Medical in Spearfish, SD.

Dr. Kuehlman decided to change careers when she saw what medicine could do for others. When Dr. Kuehlman was a young Accountant/CPA her mother went into cardiac arrest and was brought back to life with the help of her husband, her daughter and the medical profession. Dr. Kuehlman's mother lived an additional 19 years after her cardiac arrest with good medical care. It was about 12 years later when Dr. Kuehlman took action on her desire to become a doctor.

She was drawn to osteopathic medicine because of the discipline's philosophy to look for the underlying, root cause of disease, emphasis on prevention and the recognition of the body's inherent capability to heal itself. She worked in primary care before coming to urgent care medicine, and likes the change to a more varied care environment.

"I still have the chance to help and educate patients," said Dr. Kuehlman. "The goal is still to get patients established with a regular doctor for follow-up care."

Dr. Kuehlman will eventually be working in the new Walk-in Clinic south location on South Douglas Highway. That project is expected to begin in early 2016.

When she's not working, Dr. Kuehlman enjoys outdoor hobbies like hunting, fishing and bow hunting. She also likes to cook. She has two sons; Patrick, age 24 and Alexander, age 5 and just starting kindergarten.
