May 2021 Bee Award: Channa Christensen, PTA

In May 2021, Campbell County Health awarded Channa Christensen, PTA with a BEE Award. Channa is a Physical Therapy Assistant at CCH Rehabilitation Services.

The BEE (Be Excellent Every Day) Award was established to recognize staff members who go beyond extraordinary expectations, but who are not nurses.

Channa was nominated by her colleague Rachel Conrad.

“Giving your all, even on your hardest of days, is something I have been blessed to observe regularly from Channa Christensen,” says Rachel.

In the nomination form, Rachel wrote:

Channa provides excellent care and service to her patients always, treating them with the kindness and respect that fosters their recovery while working with our PT's and PTA's in the Rehab department. Her giving heart and hands are what sets her apart from others.

Recently, I observed her working with a patient who is particularly challenging. In fact, he usually gives the other therapists a run for their money. I observed her taking time with him, looking him in the eye, using a persistent, yet gentle touch and he genuinely made significant progress in his treatment this week with her help.

Another patient had a low blood sugar during his therapy session. Channa provided the standard care for him that any therapist would, but the connection she has with this patient speaks to her nomination for this award. She held his hand, was reassuring and kind and gave a hug when it was needed. While I worked with him, he had so many kind words for her, and her care. He is a long-time patient and called Channa his buddy.

“Channa is a PTA who IS excellence every day. She makes physical therapy a place that our patients can attend to feel better. Our Physical Therapists consistently rely on her support and expertise within our department, and she is a wonderful asset to Campbell County Health,” says Rachel.

About the BEE and DAISY Awards

The BEE and the DAISY Awards were established to honor the extraordinary care the incredible staff at CCH offer.

Patients, families and colleagues can nominate nurses for a DAISY Award and support staff for a BEE award. These recognitions highlight staff who go beyond the expectations, consistently demonstrating kind and genuine care through respectful and honest communication and treatment. These staff provided hope and a feeling of peace and safety to patients and their families during vulnerable and anxious times.

The BEE Award was established in 2020 by the nurses at Campbell County Health to compliment the DAISY Award. Those eligible for the BEE Award include all hospital employees outside of nursing. This special honor is celebrated once a quarter. Nominate a CCH nurse for the DAISY Award at www.cchwyo.org/DAISY. Nominate a staff member for the BEE Award at www.cchwyo.org/BEE
