CCH Presents DAISY and BEE Awards

On June 22, 2022, Campbell County Health presented a DAISY Award to Tandie Kelly, registered nurse, and a BEE Award to Sam Peak, Registration Specialist. Both work in the CCMG Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine clinic.

The Daisy Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day.

The BEE (Be Excellent Every Day) Award was established to recognize staff members who go beyond extraordinary expectations, but who are not nurses.

Both Tandie and Sam were nominated by Roy, a patient of Dr. Michael Nolledo in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. Roy calls these two staff members his adopted granddaughters, and his favorite ladies at Campbell County Health. In his words, “I was in real bad shape” during a clinic visit, and Tandie and Sam escorted me to the Emergency Room.”  A subsequent visit saw Roy admitted to the hospital with heart failure.

“If it wasn’t for the caring, smart, kind and assertive staff and knowing I could count on them,” said Roy. “Had I stayed home, I believe I would have died.”

And if that wasn’t enough, Roy went on tell a story about when his wife was hospitalized with COVID-19.

“Sam called me on Christmas,” said Roy. “She brought Christmas dinner over to my house. She went above and beyond that day.”

Tandie is an exceptional nurse who cares deeply about her patients,” said Lonnie Schell, Clinic Operations Director. “She greets every patient with a smile that could light up the room. All of Tandie’s patients know how much she cares for them and that she will do everything she can to make sure they get the best care they deserve. She is a true example of Excellence Every Day.”

The DAISY Foundation is a nonprofit established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Learn more about the DAISY Foundation at www.DAISYFoundation.org.

Congratulations, Tandie, on your DAISY Award.

The BEE Award was established in 2020 by the nurses at Campbell County Health to complement the DAISY Award. Those eligible for the BEE Award include all hospital employees outside of nursing.

Congratulations Sam, on your BEE Award.

Lonnie had this to say about Sam: “Sam forms a special bond with her patients. Sam has worked with us for several years and has really become part of our patient’s families. She will make sure to not only ask about how the patients are doing, but also their kids and grandkids. Our Registration Specialists are oftentimes the first and last face our patients see when they present to our clinics. I’m so glad Sam is one of ours.”

Patients, families and colleagues can nominate nurses for a DAISY Award and support staff for a BEE award. These recognitions highlight staff who go beyond the expectations, consistently demonstrating kind and genuine care through respectful and honest communication and treatment. These staff provided hope and a feeling of peace and safety to patients and their families during vulnerable and anxious times.
