A Piece of Our Past

Some pieces of art stay with you long after you leave. Not because they’re loud or flashy but because they’re tied to real moments that you don’t forget. For many in our community, the stained-glass chapel windows at Campbell County Health are one of those pieces.

For years, these windows were part of the hospital’s original chapel location. The chapel provided a quiet space that often became a refuge for when people needed one most: when families were hearing hard news, sitting with uncertainty, or saying goodbye to someone they loved. The stained glass didn’t magically fix anything. They didn’t take the sadness away. But instead, they offered something steady: a sense of peace, and the feeling that there was still beauty in the world, even when everything around you felt heavy.

Today, we’re grateful that this familiar comfort lives on in our new chapel space, where the stained-glass windows continue to shine and offer the same quiet reassurance to patients, families, and staff.

The plate on the stained glass reads:

These Stained Glass Windows are a gift of The CCMH Auxiliary.
-1987-
Designed and Executed by Helen Bunch.

Thank you to Helen Bunch for creating these wonderful pieces in 1987, to the CCMH Auxiliary for gifting them, not only to CCH, but to our patients and families, and to local craftsman Paul Hazlett for building the frames that protect and support this artwork.

For decades, these windows have offered a quiet sense of comfort on dark days, and we’re honored to carry that legacy forward in our chapel today.
