New 3D Mammography System Now Available at Campbell County Health

Campbell County Health is proud to share that our Radiology team has installed a new mammography system: the MAMMOMAT B.brilliant, the newest 3D mammography unit from Siemens Healthineers. This upgrade supports high-quality images, fast exams, and more comfortable experiences, helping patients feel confident in their breast health care, right here close to home.

This investment is part of our ongoing commitment to improving the technology we use to care for our community. Upgrading essential equipment like mammography helps us deliver a better patient experience and supports early detection.

Keeping critical equipment reliable is essential for patient care. Our previous system was reaching a point where it would no longer be the best option for patients, and we also wanted to bring new features and technology to our patients and our team.

Most mammograms today are performed using 3D mammography (also known as tomosynthesis). At Campbell County Health, about 95% of our mammography workload is 3D.

One of the biggest benefits of the MAMMOMAT B.brilliant is how quickly it captures that 3D image. The new system has a much faster 3D sweep, which means the time spent in compression is significantly reduced.

  • With the new unit, the 3D exposure is typically about 3–5 seconds

  • With the previous system, that same step could take around 30 seconds

While the amount of compression needed for a mammogram hasn’t changed, reducing the time in compression can make the experience feel much more manageable for many patients.

The new system is also more ergonomically designed for both patients and technologists. That means smoother positioning, better access, and a design that helps the exam feel more natural and efficient.

For most patients, the exam process is very similar: your technologist will position you at the system, explain what to do, and capture the needed images. The biggest difference is that the newer technology is designed to support a more comfortable and efficient experience.

Access to modern mammography technology close to home matters, especially preventive care and early detection. We’re proud of our Radiology team and support teams for the work it takes to bring new technology online, train staff, and ensure every patient experience remains safe, professional, and supportive.

If you’re due for your annual screening, or if your provider has recommended diagnostic imaging, our Radiology team is here for you.
