Second CNA II class graduates seven

Seven more Campbell County Health employees completed the CNA II class last week. The program was developed by CCMH to train staff for the new role of Certified Nursing Assistant II. The course is similar to the Basic Nurse Aide course and consists of 36 hours of readings, written assignments, lectures, demonstrations, videos and skills lab training over five days. There is not a state or national licensing exam for the CNA II, but each facility must verify that the employee can perform 21 specific clinical competencies a minimum of two times. It takes about six weeks for each CNA to complete the competency checklist, and a new job description for the CNA 2 role is currently being developed. CNA II employees at CCMH received a salary increase in their base rate as recognition of their additional skills and responsibilities in patient care.

The next CNA II class is scheduled to begin in May, with several people from healthcare facilities and medical offices outside CCMH already enrolled. Call 688.6040 for more information or an application.

Congratulations to these CCMH employees who completed the recent class: Georgia Reed and Gemma Monthey from Med Surg; Darlene Hance from Home Health and Hospice; Donna Johner, Sherri Thrall, Jasmine Birdsbill and Mari Tanz from Pioneer Manor.
