CCMH welcomes new Urologist

  • Posted On:

New Urologist Dr. Attila Barabas was looking to make a move from New Hampshire.

"My family is in the West and I trained in Utah," said Dr. Barabas. "My practice in New Hampshire was great, but when my youngest son couldn’t pick out his grandparents from a photo because we couldn’t see them often enough, it was time to move west."

Dr. Barabas attended medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, and completed his Urology residency at the University of Utah Health Science Center. His general urology practice will be located on the third floor of the hospital in the newly remodeled south wing, which will open February 14. Until then, he’ll see patients in Medical Oncology on the ground floor.

"I was impressed with the hospital and the clinic space", he said. "It is really well designed for patient flow and comfort."

Another big factor in the decision to come to Gillette was the school system in Campbell County and outstanding facilities like the Campbell Co. Recreation Center.

"I have four boys, and you can’t get a much better playground for kids than what I’ve seen here."

Dr. Barabas rounded out his wish list with a home and plenty of room for his family to grow. He now owns 20 acres of land. He and his wife Shannon and their sons enjoy outdoor activities like mountain biking, hiking and camping, and Dr. Barabas also enjoys playing hockey.

When asked about his practice philosophy, he emphasized being a partner is his patients’ care.

"I explain everything as much as possible," he said. "I see myself as an advocate for my patients, giving them suggestions to help them make the best possible decision for themselves. I felt I could come here and make a difference."

He sees patients with problems like overactive bladder, enlarged prostate, incontinence, erectile dysfunction, kidney stones and urinary tract infections. He also performs vasectomies and treats prostate cancer.

Dr. Barabas is looking forward to a busy practice in Gillette. Call ext. 3636 to make an appointment.
