Thanks for working here Thursday: Derric Culey, Emergency Medical Services

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Meet Derric Culey, an Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate (EMT-I) with CCH Emergency Medical Services (EMS). A very visible part of our organization, the EMS department cares for the sick and injured through prevention, response, intervention, and transport to a medical facility. Every day, our EMS crews are called upon to help others through one of what may be the most frightening times of their lives. Derric has been with CCH for over a year and a half, and is a natural to health care because he’s always been willing to help others. “I always wanted to know where an ambulance was going when I saw one driving down the road with their lights flashing. Two of my aunts were EMT’s and I loved hearing all their stories, so I decided as a senior in high school to take the EMT class and I have loved every minute of it,” he says. We asked Derric what he likes most about working for CCH and what excellence every day means to him. Check out his answer:

“Every day is different, you never know what to expect coming in the door. Everyone I work with is great—from friends in Environmental Services and Registration, to the people running 911 calls with me every day! I also like being able to work with someone different just about every shift I have.

Excellence every day means coming in the door every day and being the best that I can be. It means that I’m helping anyone and everyone, and being a good role model for everyone that looks up to us. I know what it feels like to look up to someone in my position and now being that person is a great feeling.”

Derric also added: “I would like to thank everyone I work with for helping me learn all that I have, and continue to teach me. For everyone who helped me get my position at CCH at such a young age, you can do anything you set your mind to!”

Thank you Derric for always going the extra mile for our patients. We appreciate you.
