Time to have fun in the snow!

Time to have fun in the snow!

When winter weather strikes, Emergency Medical Services staff encourage you to get out and enjoy it, safely of course. If you plan on taking advantage of all this powdery snow, check out these three tips to help you stay warm:

  1. Protect yourself from the elements by dressing warmly. Since we lose most of our body heat through out head, hand and feet, make sure you wear a warm had, gloves (or better yet, mittens) and thick socks!
  2. Layer your clothing. Start with an under-layer such as long underwear or thermals, which can easily fit under most clothing. Then, you can bundle up with a fleece or woolen sweater under your coat to help you stay nice and toasty.
  3. Move around to create heat! That's right. Get out there and go for a walk, put on some cross country skis or snowshoes for a nice jaunt in the snow, throw a loosely packed snow ball (or two), or drop down to make some snow angels, like some EMS crew members did in the video below.

And lastly, make sure you have fun out there!
