June Success Story

Summer is upon us, and with school no longer available during the day to keep the kiddos busy, the dreaded “I’m bored” will be soon coming out of their mouths! Boredom can be a great motivator. Give the responsibility of entertainment back to your children. Ask them-

Have you…

Been creative?

Outside to play?

Read a book?

Exercised?

Done your chores?

Or offer suggestions such as

You can…

Build, draw, cook, or create something

Organize one of your drawers, closet, or room

Read a book

Explore outside

Do something nice for others

Other options could include a “Boredom Jar”. As a family, come up with fun ideas, write them down and place them in a jar. Once the dreaded statement, ”I’m bored”, escapes from their lips they get to pull from the jar and complete the activity. Some activities could be playing outside, drawing something HUGE, drawing something as tiny as possible, or ways your child can help around your house. A positive group activity could be finding unusual rocks, and painting/decorating them with uplifting or inspiring messages, and then hiding them around the community for others to find!

If you find your child is too engrossed in their electronics see the post created last month by Karissa Morris, LPC; in which she gave ideas on replacing technology!
