CCH July 2017 Department Discovery: Environmental and Linen Services

The Campbell County Health July 2017 Department Discovery shines a light on the Environmental and Linen Services department.

Environmental and Linen Services supports patient care throughout all of CCH by providing a clean, safe and comfortable environment for patients, residents, visitors and staff. The staff provides general housekeeping, floor care and laundry services for all of Campbell County Health, which includes Campbell County Memorial Hospital (and the Main Clinic and Third Floor Clinics), Early Childhood Center, Emergency Medical Services, Home Health and Hospice, Home Medical Resources, Stocktrail Building, rooms used at Pioneer Manor and The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center.

“By doing this, we enhance the atmosphere to help our patients heal, and our residents live their daily lives,” says Director Jeanie Trudo. “We work alongside all of CCH’s departments to provide the greatest care to our patients and residents.”

Nearly 60 employees (when the department is fully staffed) help to keep CCH clean and sanitary. Staff is skilled in modern cleaning and laundering techniques, and department leaders are Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professionals through the American Hospital Association.

Ever wonder how much there is to clean throughout CCH? Here’s your answer:

  • 402,332 sq. ft. at CCMH, and other CCH facilities cleaned daily
  • 7,034 discharge cleans (586 per month average), which is in addition to the daily cleans done on patient rooms at CCMH
  • Patient laundry and resident clothing is washed, dried and processed at CCMH, which is 86,480 pounds per month, or 1,037,762 pounds per year!
  • 152,000 sq. ft. at The Legacy cleaned daily
  • 137 daily room cleans at The Legacy

As you can see, Environmental Services has their work cut out for them!

According to Jeanie, this crew’s greatest accomplishment was preparing and opening The Legacy. “Some 90% of the construction clean up and opening preparation was performed by employees who gave up their days off and worked overtime to complete this task. We were able to get into The Legacy to clean on October 10, 2016, and had it ready for the Grand Opening on November 2, 2016—quite a monumental task considering we still had to maintain Pioneer Manor, Campbell County Memorial Hospital and all of the outside facilities as well,” she says.

Jeanie calls the staff at Environmental and Linen Services wonderful, caring, dedicated and devoted.

“They pull together as a team when times get lean, and do whatever is necessary to ensure the cleanliness and safety of our facilities. I believe that it takes a very special person to work in a service department, as many times they are the support system—the behind-the-scene workers who are rarely noticed—but what they do on a daily basis is an extremely important aspect to the success of this organization,” Jeanie says.
