Radiology employees earn certification as Bone Densitometry Technologists

GILLETTE, WY – Kayci Robinson and Nicole Rozier, technologists in Campbell County Memorial Hospital’s Radiology department, recently received certification as Bone Density Technologists from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

“Nicole and Kayci are great examples of employees who go above and beyond,” said Radiology Director Terri Kinney. “They are both excited to be able to advance their profession and ultimately provide better patient care both locally and nationally.”

Both Nicole and Kayci received some of the highest scores among all candidates sitting for the ARRT Bone Densitometry exam. Because of their interest and aptitude for the profession, they have been asked to volunteer as a consultant for ARRT. Consultants can serve on various committees, such as exam, practice analysis, standard setting, and writing questions for future exams.

Healthy and strong bones are essential for keeping active, especially as people grow older. If someone is at risk of low bone density or osteoporosis, or shows signs of subtle bone loss, doctors must be able to verify the condition before making treatment recommendations. Bone Density Technologists create images using specialized X-ray equipment, which can help doctors discover issues with patients’ bone health. If the test reveals bone loss, patients and their health providers can discuss treatment options, such as medication and lifestyle changes.

The purpose of ARRT certification and registration in Bone Densitometry is to recognize individuals who are qualified to perform the role of a Bone Densitometrist. Certification and registration consists of 16 hours of structured education and an exam to measure knowledge of the daily tasks that an entry-level technologist performs.

The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is a leading credentialing organization with more than 330,000 registrants that recognizes qualified individuals in medical imaging, interventional procedures, and radiation therapy. Learn more at www.arrt.org.
