Cancer Resource Center provides cancer patients with more resources

Cancer Resource Center provides cancer patients with more resources

Thanks to a two-year contract of $170,001 from the Wyoming Cancer Resource Services Program, funded by the Wyoming Department of Health Integrated Cancer Services Program, residents from Campbell, Crook, Johnson and Sheridan counties have access to the Cancer Resource Center in the Heptner Cancer Center at Campbell County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) in Gillette, Wyoming.

The Cancer Resource Center is staffed by Kim Nelson, who can visit with patients one-on-one to help them learn about their specific cancer and how to navigate choices and treatments, and gain access to cancer screenings, wigs, books, education materials, gas cards for travel to out-of-town cancer treatments, and much more.

“Kim does a great job of helping patients navigate their way through the system as well as lending a listening ear,” says Leigh Worsley, MS, RTT, CMD, Cancer Care Director.

Kim spends her day doing a variety of tasks including helping patients:

  • find transportation help from gas cards to using the Campbell County Senior Center bus
  • find discounted hotel rates in different areas through a system set up by the American Cancer Society
  • find financial help available from other cancer centers and Foundations in our region to see what kind of grants and assistance they offer patients; including referring patients to the Campbell County Healthcare Foundation’s Cancer Care Committee if they are Campbell County residents

Kim also spends time reaching out to the regions clinics and doctor offices to educate them on what Wyoming Cancer Resource Services offers, as well as attending trade shows and health fairs to spread cancer screening awareness, which covers information on radon, colorectal-FIT kits and mammograms, among others.

Call Kim directly at 888-684-4550 for more information and to set up a time to meet at the Cancer Resource Center.
