Courtney Fulginiti, IEMT, is honored as Wyoming EMS Provider of the Year

Campbell County Health is proud to celebrate Courtney Fulginiti, IEMT, who was honored with the Wyoming EMS Provider of the Year Award during the Wyoming State Trauma Conference.

During her five years with CCH EMS, Courtney has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her patients, colleagues, and community. Her work reflects the many roles EMS professionals carry each day: responding in moments of crisis, calming chaos, supporting families, teaching others, advocating for patients, and continuing forward even when the work is difficult or unseen.

For Courtney, that work begins with a simple philosophy: treat every patient the way she would want someone to care for the people she loves. “At the end of the day, I treat all of my patients as if they were my daughter or my dad,” Courtney said. Receiving the statewide award came as a surprise, particularly because Courtney learned her nomination came from someone outside of CCH. “I kept thinking, ‘What call could I have possibly run that made this person think I deserved this?’” she said. “I’m just doing my job. I’m just showing up.”

For Courtney, showing up means much more than arriving at a scene. She describes the role of EMS as being “the calm in the storm” during some of the most frightening and vulnerable moments of a person’s life. “When someone is having their darkest day, they’re looking for a sign that help is coming,” Courtney said. “They’re looking for our lights and listening for our sirens. We have to be that calm for them.”

That belief shapes the way Courtney cares for patients and the way she teaches future EMS professionals. As an instructor, she reminds students that technical knowledge and clinical skills are only part of the job. Courtney also stresses the importance of compassion, kindness, and recognizing the responsibility that comes with caring for people during emergencies. “I’m training you to save me. I’m training you to save my daughter,” she tells her students. “Be compassionate. Be kind. Be calm. Just show up.”

Her impact extends well beyond emergency response. Courtney helps organize and host Touch-A-Truck during the Gillette–Campbell County Airport’s Wings and Wheels event, creating an opportunity for children and families to meet first responders, explore emergency vehicles, and learn more about the people behind emergency services. She has also worked to introduce younger students to EMS as an important part of the community. What began with an invitation to speak during a local elementary school’s community helpers program has become an annual opportunity to teach children about ambulances, emergency care, and the role EMS professionals play.

Courtney’s commitment to caring for others also includes supporting the first responders who answer difficult calls. She completed advanced training in Assisting Groups in Crisis and Assisting Individuals in Crisis and serves as president of the Campbell County Critical Incident Stress Management Team. In that role, Courtney is working with partner agencies to strengthen peer support programs and develop a FAST 5 Standard for automatic CISM Team activation.

Her continued professional development also includes plans to become a GRIN instructor. These efforts reflect Courtney’s understanding that caring for others does not end when an emergency call is over. First responders also need resources, support, and people willing to recognize the emotional weight that can come with the work.

Courtney credits teamwork as another essential part of emergency medicine. Whether working with her EMS partner, another first responder, or a community member who steps forward to help, she believes excellent care comes from people trusting and supporting one another.

The Wyoming EMS Provider of the Year Award recognizes that commitment to service, but Courtney continues to see her work through a much simpler lens. Show up. Help. Be compassionate. Be the calm when someone else is facing the storm.
