We are excited to welcome Amy Winkleman, DPM, FACFAS, to WYOS as our newest podiatric surgeon. | Amy Winkleman, DPM, FACFAS, is a podiatrist with more than 20 years of experience caring for patients with a wide range of foot and ankle conditions. She has a particular passion for surgery and helping patients reduce pain, correct deformities, and return to walking and the activities they enjoy. | Dr. Winkleman is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, a professional distinction that reflects her commitment to advanced foot and ankle care and surgical excellence. | Her interest in foot and ankle care began through her own experiences as an athlete. Growing up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Winkleman played both volleyball and tennis and received college scholarships for both sports. Experiencing foot and ankle injuries herself, along with seeing injuries in other athletes, sparked an early interest in the specialty. She was also influenced by seeing the effects diabetes can have on the lower extremities within her own family. | Dr. Winkleman earned two bachelor's degrees from the University of Akron, one in microbiology and one in cytology. Before attending medical school, she worked in the pathology department at Mount Sinai in Cleveland, where she became supervisor of the cytology department. Her work included screening specimens for cancer, assisting with surgical specimens, and participating in autopsies. | It was during her time in pathology that one of the physicians she worked with encouraged her to consider medical school. She was given opportunities to shadow physicians in several specialties, including podiatry, and quickly realized foot and ankle care was the right fit for her. | Throughout her career, Dr. Winkleman has practiced in several parts of the country. Her first position following residency was in Portland, Maine. She later returned to her hometown area in Ohio, where she opened and operated a successful private podiatry practice for six years. She then moved to Tillamook, Oregon, where she helped establish a hospital's foot and ankle service line and practiced for another six years. | Dr. Winkleman moved to Gillette in 2024 and has enjoyed becoming part of the community. She values building lasting relationships with her patients and finds it especially rewarding to see the difference treatment can make in their quality of life. "I love being in the operating room, and I love seeing patients in the clinic," she said. "It's so satisfying to see someone have less pain, correct a deformity, or be able to walk more normally." At WYOS, Dr. Winkleman is excited to continue building a strong surgical foot and ankle practice while providing patients with personalized, comprehensive care. | Outside of work, Dr. Winkleman enjoys walking her two German shepherds, baking, interior decorating, and spending time with her husband and daughter. Her daughter is a senior at Thunder Basin High School and plays tennis, giving Dr. Winkleman another opportunity to stay connected to a sport she has enjoyed since her own school days. | |
